Meet our Family Check-In Family!
Dr. Hilary Vidair is Director of Family Check-In as well as Director of LIU Post’s Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program. She is a New York State licensed psychologist with a doctoral degree in clinical and school psychology from Hofstra University. She also completed a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Research Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Vidair specializes in evidence-based treatments for children and parents, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavioral parent training, and dialectical behavior therapy. Her scholarly work has been published in highly regarded peer-reviewed psychology and psychiatry journals. She has also received several awards, including the National Institute of Health Clinical Research Loan Repayment Award, the NIMH Child Intervention, Prevention, and Services (CHIPS) Research Fellowship, and was named a New York State Office of Mental Health Policy Scholar. She maintains a private practice in Great Neck, Long Island, specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy for children and adolescents, behavioral parent training, and dialectical behavior therapy​ for families.

Rachel Kupferberg, MS is a current third year in LIU Post’s Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program. Rachel has spent time working with children with high functioning autism, ADHD, and Selective Mutism at the Big Apple Day Program, a six-week social skills treatment program. Here, she was able to monitor children’s daily prosocial goals using the Daily Report Card, as well as co-lead a weekly behavioral parent training group alongside a certified PCIT therapist. Additionally, Rachel has facilitated social skills groups for children with high functioning autism at ASPIRE Center for Learning and Development. During her previous externship, Rachel was a graduate student therapist at Long Island University Psychological Services Center, where she implemented evidence-based psychotherapy and performed neuropsychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Rachel is currently completing her third year externship at Kurtz Psychology Consulting PC. Here, she is training to become a PCIT certified therapist. Rachel has gained intensive behavioral experience, including behavioral parent training, working with young children with disruptive behavior disorders and anxiety disorders, within both individual and group settings. Rachel is interested in exploring the intersection between clinical work and mental health advocacy for children and adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges. In her free time, Rachel enjoys traveling to new places, learning new languages, spending time with family and friends, and exploring New York City.

Andréa L. Davis, M.A., M.S. is a 3rd year student in the LIU Post Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She has been a research assistant for the Family Check-In lab since 2016 and has served as a clinician for one FCI case under the supervision of Dr. Hilary Vidair, Ph.D. Andréa has also been the co-leader for a psychoeducational workshop for parents titled “The ABC’s of Managing Your Child’s Behavior.” Before coming to LIU, Andréa worked as a case manager and social worker at various organizations serving diverse client populations. She’s happy to be part of a program that provides high quality service to people at a relatively affordable cost. She also enjoys cooking, practicing yoga and traveling when she can.

Mary Elsharouny is a second year student at LIU Post's Clinical Psychology Doctoral program. She began as a research assistant in Family Check-In in 2017. Under the supervision of Dr. Hilary Vidair, Mary has been involved in the recruitment of families, co-lead workshop, worked with another therapist on a case, and first authored research presentations. Mary is excited by the prospect of working with diverse and underserved individuals and families. Prior to her start at LIU, Mary held a supervisory position in a group home serving adults with developmental disabilities and serious mental illnesses. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys hiking and traveling.
Allison Rumelt is a 2nd year student in the LIU Post Clinical Psychology doctoral program and has been a member of the Family Check-In program for the past 2 years. In addition to her current role as graduate student therapist at the LIU Post Psychological Services Center, Allison has gained extensive experience working with families and children at the NYU Child Study Center, Growth Psychology, and the Bio Behavioral Institute. She is particularly interested in behavioral parent training as well as working with children with anxiety disorders. Allison is passionate about working creatively to tailor evidence-based treatments to match the needs of each client and help them reach their goals. When she isn’t in school, Allison enjoys photography and spending time with her friends and dog Shirley.

Carly Apar is a 1st year student in the LIU Post Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She has been a research assistant for the Family Check-In lab since Fall 2018. Before coming to LIU, Carly attended New York University and gained experience in the field as a camp counselor at NYU Child Study Center's Summer Program for Kids, as well as a research assistant at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. She also currently works at Kidville Garden City. Carly is enthusiastic about her future with the FCI program and passionate about working with children and families.

Angelique (Ang) Romulus is a 1st year student in the LIU Post Clinical Psychology doctoral program and has been a member of the Family Check-In program for the past year. She recently graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and a French minor from the University at Buffalo. She recently interned at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Family & Social Medicine department and is interested in interventions with high-risk families and families of color. She will begin working as graduate student therapist at the LIU Post Psychological Services Center this August. When she isn’t in school, Ang enjoys spending time with her family & friends and reading.

Ami Zala is a 1st year student in the LIU Post clinical psychology doctoral program and has been a member of the Family Check-In Lab since she began the program. In terms of her education, Ami received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and economics at Hofstra University. She has experience with short term crisis counseling, as well as experience with autistic children. Her clinical interests are working with children and adolescents with traumatic histories, working with serious mental illness, and working with those with anxiety disorders. When not in school, Ami enjoys ceramics, dance, and spending time with her friends and family.
